Good hiking tour in the park but wildlife diversity is limited

点评：We decided to stay at Menjangan Dynasty Resort which has a location very convenient for a trip to the park. We followed the recommendation of others and booked Idris an independent guide before we arrived. He met us at our hotel the previous evening to finalise details.
Not being particularly proficient with water-based activities, we opted for an extended hike around Bunbrum Savannah Forest. Staying at the resort allows a departure by boat leaving the jetty at 6.30am for a 20-minute journey to the park and returning to our hotel by the same route at 11:15. The longer hike takes you to higher elevations and we saw several species of bird as well as long tailed Black Monkeys and deer. Idris is a knowledgeable guide skilled at identifying birds, animals, and medicinal plants. While we did see most available species, generally the park has limited wildlife diversity and numbers. Apart from Bali Starling and Black Monkey sightings, there was nothing that could not be viewed elsewhere.
The cost at 2.8m is expensive by Indonesian standards paying well over 3x more than any other service bought during our extended trip including some longer activities. It was in initially even more but when queried, Idris did come back with a lower quote for the longer hike that representing slightly improved value. Costs will include all fees and park entry permits. He will also provide good binoculars if required.
Now that we have completed our trip, while we are sure Idris maximised the benefit of what was on offer, not sure in hindsight whether this trip to the park overall offered good value.
