点评：Among a LOT of competition in the area, one of the main reasons I’ve shopped at GF so frequently over the years is that they’ve always had an excellent cafe on the top floor, most recently run by Reece & Em as Elm Kombucha. This has now gone, to be replaced by a watersports section which GF clearly sees as more profitable.
So short-sighted but also symptomatic of the company’s move from an independent store focussed on quality and service to an anonymous chain, seeking growth and losing touch with what made it special. Service is ever more impersonal, disengaged and robotic, layout confusing, prices rarely competitive.
Without even a coffee shop to draw me in to make an occasional impulse gear purchase, I’ll be most likely shopping at one of the many local competitors who actually show in their customers in future.
