Antarctica Flights的点评
点评：Recently, I had the good fortune to experience an ‘Antarctica in a Day’ flight from Melbourne. I was accompanied by my 88 year old mum who was on her fourth flight. It was not cheap, but truly an epic, unique experience which certainly crossed off a major ‘bucket list’ task. The boarding operation was slick and as soon as we arrived at our ‘Dreamliner 787’ seats, I felt a very positive vibe and knew that we were in expert hands. So it proved.
At around the 3.5 hour mark, we began to see large ice-burgs from the largish windows. By the 4 hour mark, we were flying over the Antarctic itself, viewing many more ice-burgs, glaciers, some bare rock, blue ice and two Antarctica bases. Spectacular, distinctive scenery indeed and the near cloudless skies made for very clear viewing! It was hard to believe that below us were -8C temperatures and 70 km winds. The Qantas crew and the Antarctica Flight team’s expertise and friendliness helped add to this unforgettable experience. The Antarctic Science Foundation members and other Antarctica experts were also very approachable and informative. The commentary was interesting and often spell-binding though some was crackly in places, maybe from the flight deck. Refreshments were varied and plentiful.
We flew over the Antarctic itself for over four hours, with two hours in the window seat before the mandatory swap. Then a relaxing 4.5 hour return to Melbourne. The ambience and friendliness of the passengers themselves was as good as I have experienced for many years. A wonderful day indeed which greatly broadened my perspective of the natural, pristine world of the Antarctic.
