点评:We booked the Ultimate Coffee Experience at Ocaso through our hotel (Bio Habitat), and it was one of the highlights of our trip to Colombia. Nestled in the mountains just about 15 minutes from Salento, the drive itself was stunning—lush, green, and peppered with other coffee farms along the way. Look out for the signs for Finca El Ocaso, a charming red, white, and green estate where the adventure begins.
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm hospitality and, of course, a fresh cup of coffee. The finca has a great setup where guests wait in a scenic, shared space before heading out for their selected tours. We opted for the Ultimate Experience and were lucky to be guided by Jonathan—an incredibly knowledgeable and engaging host who speaks excellent English.
The tour lasted about three hours and began with a walk through the coffee fields. We even got to wear traditional baskets and pick coffee cherries ourselves! Jonathan shared the fascinating history of coffee, both globally and in Colombia, and taught us about the ecology of the coffee plant. We tasted different varieties of cherries grown on the farm, and he explained the differences in flavor and color.
After the field experience, we moved into the processing area where Jonathan demonstrated how the coffee beans are extracted, dried, and roasted. Then came our favorite part: the coffee lab. Here, we engaged all five senses to explore the aromas and tastes of four different coffees from the finca. It felt like a blend of a wine tasting and a sensory experiment—fun, educational, and surprisingly challenging. If you do well, you even receive a certificate, which makes for a great souvenir!
After the tour, you can relax at the café overlooking the mountains—perfect for photos—and try more coffee, snacks, or even coffee beer. They also have a charming gift shop with mugs and bags of their top-quality beans. We’d recommend holding off on a full meal until you return to town, as prices at the café are comparable to hotel dining.
Overall, we can’t recommend this experience enough. Whether you’re a coffee lover, a nature enthusiast, or just curious about the journey from bean to cup, this tour is worth every peso. Special shoutout to Jonathan for making it so memorable!
