点评:I knew nothing about this village until I read about it in a book called ‘The Ghost Village Murder’ and become intrigued. As the land that the village is on is owned by the MoD as a large area for manoeuvres including artillery practice, there are limited times that you can visit - some weekends- but not all so you will need to check. The village is located down a lane and there is a gate that is opened and closed to permit entry. There is a large car park too. The village and its history are fascinating. It was commandeered by the MoD during the Second World War with the proviso that all of the villagers could return after the war was over. Sadly that never happened and for many villagers who rented their houses there was absolutely no compensation. The church, one of the few properties still intact, has an exhibition telling the story of the village and its villagers and the schoolroom remains as it would have been when it was left. There are other more derelict properties to explore and others that are fenced off but all have their stories. Some of the people interred in the churchyard are ex villagers who returned to be buried there. There is s walk down to the coast from the village but sadly we did not have the time to do this. Such a beautiful, powerful but incredibly sad story. This village is definitely worth a visit.
