点评:We went to see a grave of a family member who was killed in Singapore in WWII. The memorial is very quiet - we were the only visitors there. The headstones are very interesting to read and the place is quite moving if you understand the history behind the sacrifices of these brave men and women. It is relatively easy to get to by taking the MRT to Kranji station and then hoping on a bus for a very short time (two stops). Let the bus driver know when alighting where you want to get off because the bus does not always stop there and it is easy to miss it (we did and had to walk back one stop). If you are not sure which bus to take, the friendly station attendants are happy to help you but Google maps is a good guide. When you get to the bus stop, there's about a five minute walk down the road to the entrance. It's flat and has a sidewalk. There's very little shade or shelter at the memorial so definitely take a small umbrella with you for both shade and weather protection. Bring water. There's a book near the entrance that can help you find a particular memorial headstone if you are looking for a particular relative's name. But you can also look up the Commonwealth War Graves website to find all that information as well. Go earlier in the day - we aimed to be there between 9 and 10 am - to avoid the heat. Travel via the MRT will take you about an hour each way from the main civic area of Singapore. I don't think I'd go if I didn't have a particular grave I wanted to see - there is not a lot of information provided in the memorial area as it is not really intended as a "tourist" destination for general viewing and historical interest. It's more of a sacred space to remember those who were lost.
