Orca Camp, better for adults-only, not teens

点评：ORCA CAMP. This was a bucket-list experience that I planned for my wife and I and our 13-year old.
Overall it was a unique experience but there are a few things I wish I had known... first and foremost this is best suited to adult couples/adult groups ONLY. This is really not designed for families or for kids/teens. Our 13-year old is a great kayaker, but the vibe of the place is really for adults. One of the guides mentioned that they are always nervous or unsure about kids when they come to camp..... Putting 3 into a tent was technically possible, but very cramped. Would not recommend 3/tent. I really would not call this "glamping." Two pit toilets to share for 20 people..the smell was intense. 1 shower for 20 people had a line every day. **Orca camp, please make more toilets and showers or better yet reduce the # of people each trip** I would call this nice camping! Camping with a firm twin bed (or cot if you are 3ppl)! Camping with a chef! but not my idea of glamping. Speaking of chef - the food was amazing. They were very conscientious about food allergies, very accommodating. Great meals for flexible eaters. Picky eaters beware. The vastness of the Strait is not to be underestimated... we saw Orcas twice but the group that was leaving the camp as we were entering did not see anything the whole trip. You should be prepared that you might not see anything. The boat ride to/from camp is 3+ hours, we saw 0 on the way to camp and both Orca/humpback on the way home. It is hit or miss. There is a lot of downtime, essentially waiting around while the guides load/unload. There are 3 kayak opportunities per day, 1hr @ 630am to paddle along the shore and see starfish, sea cucumbers. 930-330 long kayak! and 1hr @ 730pm. Pack 2 "kayak" outfits and rotate them. Bring binoculars if you can. The kayak guides were super knowledgeable and generally very friendly and helpful. Have fun, but know what you are getting into!
