点评:Visited as part of the triple Malham attractions in a day.
After crossing over from Malham limestone escarpment route , we revisited Malham tarn after many years.
Access was clear and straight forwards and a pleasant walk until we reached the Manor House.
From memory this was a splendid old building, but now it’s locked up, empty and in a poor state of repair, only accessed by NT staff. The front veranda has fallen down and barriers in place to protect visitors.
As it was a Thursday, I assume that it was a non visitor day, so just used the unisex toilet facility.
It wasn’t a nice experience but it had clean water and towels to dry, despite looking a bit sorry. However, it was there and usable.
There was some other redeeming features, in the tree sculptures we saw.
On the way out we saw several estate houses that are left empty and unloved.
What is going on with the National Trust?
Seems to me it’s more in the business of managing profitable enterprises than maintaining the nations heritage. Why are properties left empty, rather than housing families, who would pay rent!
There’s are nice boardwalk to the west of the yarn, through the marshes.
