Two Options for this Designation in Harlingen
World Birding Center的点评
点评：There are a couple of places we noted had the designation of World Birding Center in Harlingen. There was a place called the Harlingen Thicket WBC but there is also the Hugh Ramsey Nature Center. Both of these spots touted their World Birding Center designation. They are both unique spots to observe wild life and birds. We enjoyed the Hugh Ramsey Nature Center more. It seemed to be wilder and less in the middel of the city. The Thicket has walking paths that turn into paved paths and has the more mountain biker feel.
Both places were good to observe wildlife. The Thicket we saw several javelinas and observed only a few birds (time of year could be a factor). Hugh Ramsey we again saw only a few birds but it felt much wilder.
It is great that the local communities in the RGV have embraced this aspect of providing spots for migrating birds to find a haven for their brief respite through the area both south bound and north bound. It is also a very pleasant way to get some exercise for a hike in the outdoors.
We enjoyed both of these WBCs in Harlingen..whichever one lays the claim to this designation.
