点评:Our time at the Board Camp Crystal Mine was a highlight of this trip! Cheryl, Orville, and Debbie were very helpful and fun to be around! You can tell they really "dig" their work (pun very much intended!)
The short hike to the mine was pretty easy to navigate even for a couple of city-slicker seniors. Although the day was hot and humid, conditions under the trees were surprisingly pleasant!
This is probably the closest experience I'll ever have to an archaeological expedition. When you first look into a hole, everything is the same sandy color. But with some practice we began to see glints of reflected light from small crystals, and recognize the sound of bigger crystal-bearing rocks when struck by a hand-held metal rake or shovel.
A lot of families with children came the day we visited. While the kids were interested for a while, it was the adults that really got into to challenge.
We were excited to find some very small crystals for my wife to use in jewelry making, and some bigger rocks for the flower garden. If you're planning to be in the area during their open days, why not stop in for something different?
