When my mother, a book collector, died, I handed over ±1000 books to Book Barn because I was too ill myself to sort and sell them. The agreement was that they would collect the books, list them online and keep me updated monthly on sales, via a payment schedule that decreased monthly on anything unsold after a year. I should have pulled out when they then inexplicably tried to charge a hefty sum for collection, which I refused. The man who collected the books just chucked them into crates, damaging many. They then failed to list the books online as promised; I searched repeatedly, and every time I enquired, they said it was ‘in progress’, but but none of the titles were ever listed. They then claimed the books ‘didn’t sell within the agreed timeframe’, so I didn’t receive a penny.
It's a dishonest situation and I believe they effectively stole 1000 books from me.
