This is a trail that truly earns its scenery. Hiking poles are a must for navigating the steep and sometimes rocky terrain, and there are moments of genuine scrambling where you use both hands and feet to conquer the cliffs. Far from being intimidating, these sections only add to the sense of adventure and accomplishment. Come prepared with good footwear and trekking sticks, and you will feel like a true explorer out on the edge of the world.
The perfect reward at the end of the trail is lunch at Restaurant Zavial, where we fueled up with a classic Portuguese bifana washed down with an ice-cold Coke Zero. Simple, satisfying, and absolutely earned. Best of all, getting back to your starting point is a breeze as Uber is readily available right from the restaurant, making this a wonderfully stress-free point-to-point hike with no need to double back or arrange complicated transport in advance.
