点评:If you are visiting Nagasaki, I recommend taking a day-trip to Sasebo using the train. You can visit the Maritime Self-Defense Force Museum in the morning and the Kujukushima Aquarium in the afternoon. It is very easy to get around using the bus (Google maps helps with the scheduling).
This is a lovely little aquarium and has some very interesting exhibits. The entrance fee for adults is ¥1,470 (so about $10 USD with the crazy exchange rate right now). They have a dolphin show a few times a day, but the aquarium is known for its luminous jellyfish exhibit and research. Dr. Osamu Shimomura won the Nobel prize in Chemistry in 2008 for his discovery of green fluorescent protein and the aquarium continues this research into bioluminescence. I also found the horseshoe crab exhibit to be very fascinating. They have a great display of schooling fish, in addition to lobsters and eels. There are many activities for young children as well.
Finally, the aquarium is located in a seaside area where you can visit shops and also take a short boat cruise around nearby small islands in the bay. It is a quite beautiful area.
