点评:The Botanic (or Botanical) Gardens in Alexandra Park, Harare are a hidden treasure; a necessary lung in a city where all too often trees are neglected or cut down as if they were pests. That it has little funding is clear. There is much that could be done by way of pruning, removing dead wood, managing termites, rebuilding the Interpretative Centre and restoring the desert greenhouse, or, with the assistance of a generous donor. providing bird baths for the many species of birds which inhabit the park. But don't let my comments deter you. This is a beautiful quiet park with a wide range of different trees originally planted according to their habitat. The staff do as much as they can and it is very clean. A lovely area for a walk or a picnic.
However, I do have one very real moan. When you walk through the park towards the main Head Office, where a very green garden has been developed as a wedding venue, you have to pass what can only be called a car dump. As a metaphor it undermines all that the Park professes to be for.
