Howick Falls is a waterfall on the Umgeni River, just northwest of Pietermaritzburg. It is the second highest waterfall (after Tugela Falls) in South Africa, with a drop of more than 100 meters into a large pool. We thought about hiking down to the pool, but time was against us. According to one of the photographers we met there (he's also a guide), it's a 55 minute hike down and a 30 minute hike up. Not sure why the hike up is so much shorter, though.
