点评:We saw relatively few birds here - let alone any of particular interest [other than half-a-dozen little egrets] - but that's as much a reflection of the time of year as anything else and we nonethess had a very pleasant time here wandering around the well-surfaced track and calling in at the several hides along the way (South hide having the most bird-spotting potential, in our view).
There is no charge for admission but visitors are invited to contribute £2 for parking (either by phone or in the collection box just inside the cafe), to which I was more than happy to add a donation.
Well done to all the volunteers of the Durham Wildlife Trust who maintain this place, although I was saddened to see that parts of the reserve have been overtaken by the dreaded Himalayan balsam which, despite what some would have you believe, is impossible to eradicate once it's set seed for the first time.
