Disappointing but polite experience

点评：I pursued a wine tasting experience at Chateau Targé with my family due to the high quality reviews across the internet. The chateau was easy to reach by car and there is parking. The scenery is beautiful.
The “tour and tasting” experience was disappointing. Other reviews here and elsewhere note the quality, depth, and exceptional nature of the tour and tasting. For us, a polite but inexperienced staff member who told us she was not involved in wine making led the tasting. She provided no history on the chateau and very minimal history about the winemakers (father and son). She was very kind but did not know much about how the wines were made or selected. Overall, very very disappointing. It was also very brief (about 24 minutes in length from arrival to departure). We were not shown any other part of the facilities but the room where the tasting took place. We did ask to see more but were told it “is a working cellar so it is not possible to see anything.” This is a stark departure from the experience of other travelers. I regret pursuing a tasting here and would have been better off taking my family into Saumur for a tour and tasting elsewhere.
