点评:During my travels from Ella to Ahangama, I had the opportunity to visit a few monasteries in the area. I chose this one as the 1st one with a particularly large Buddha statue.
The road leading to the monastery was in good condition, with only a minor detour. The entry fee was 200 LKR per person, and we were asked to leave our shoes in the hall where the ticket collector was stationed.
Upon entering, we were unexpectedly led through a "hell tunnel," which depicted graphic and horrifying punishments that await those who are sent to hell. As I had a toddler with me, I found some of these sculptures to be inappropriate for young children. This was an unexpected element to encounter in a monastery.
We then proceeded to the Buddha statue, which was indeed impressive in size. However, it appeared to be in need of maintenance and was showing signs of age and wear.
Below the statue, there were various other Buddha idols where people were worshipping. Unfortunately, there was also a chained elephant. Many visitors have given this place a one-star rating due to the presence of the elephant, and it was indeed saddening to see such a magnificent creature in captivity.
Overall, it was an acceptable experience, but not one I would necessarily repeat.
