点评:We were surprised just how interesting this castle was, and the views were simply incredible. Whilst it has been significantly restored, and can appear a touch manicured, but the displays were interesting, and gave lots of information about the history of the castle, and of the Orden de Santiago knights etc. The descriptions naturally were in Spanish, but the majority were also translated (and unusually, accurately!) into English. There were also some audio visual displays with the option of English subtitles. A long walk, and steep climb, up from the village, but well worth it. There is restricted access by car, nearly to the top IF you are elderly disabled or with small children. But it’s definitely not a location for pushchairs or anyone with significant walking problems. However, it is certainly somewhere to clamber round. The views from the ramparts, and the main castle tower have different views, so it’s worth doing both. We thought the price of tickets was very reasonable. We were disappointed as the incredibly helpful man on reception told us to look out for the profile of an Indian chieftain, on the nearby Yelmo mountain…. which stayed covered in cloud! (We did get to see it properly later in the day, and yes, it does look like a chieftain.). We also succumbed to buying some of the local Sierra de Segura prize winning olive oil, from the very chatty woman in the shop/refreshment area - glad we did as we didn’t see it again.
