点评：Although photos from the past peak one's interest, they cannot replace the experience of standing in the dimly lit cold cave and seeing (nea experiencing) the paintings. There is one long panel which the guide (and trainee) painstakingly draw out so you do now miss a detail that may be in shadow. Paintings are all red outlines with finger taps. Some filled. Use of the contours of the cave in the paintings as is typical of this period. The experience at this cave is more than the paintings. The guide gives the history and contrasts the timeperiods of excavations as well as methods to clean and preserve. El Pendo also had a wealth of portable art. That which was preserved can be seen in Santander.
There is parking which is accessed by a narrow winding tract. Cross fingers that you don't meet someone going the opposite way...one of you will be backing up. The path to the cave is fairly level , fairly short and not steep. Inside is cold! The coldest one I went to so be sure to wear a jacket. Reservation recommended. Tours in Spanish, but since I was the only person at my timeslot, he was gracious enough to speak English.
