点评:Came to Totnes for a music gig in St Mary’s with a friend who found it on a live music listings site. Made an evening of it, travelling up from Plymouth by train, walking from Totnes station to a corner pub called the Barrel House then across the road to the Angel restaurant for supper before the very short stroll down to St Mary’s. It’s obviously a fine old church for all the services and ceremonies provided by the CofE but they also support independent events. It was very busy on our night, very well supported, a characteristically Totnes crowd from the appearances, demeanours and clothing (especially the knitted hats) of the patrons. I’d say it was pretty well full. The vicar was putting on everyone’s wrist tags and checking folk in and out during the performance, whether they wanted to slip off to the tricky to find lavatories or just for a fag, some fresh air etc. The church had a very convivial feel and the performances were entertaining. The main and backup performers were very different. The latter, a female, had a series of angry, angst strewn lyrics to her love songs, the main performer with his acoustic guitar was more positive, tolerable and upbeat. We didn’t regret the concert or any feature of our venture. Afterwards we went back to the Angel to finish our supper wine bottle before the downhill stroll back to the station and home.
Totnes, it’s hospitality and varied venues, especially the parish church, are all an enticing and pleasurable pastime.

托特尼斯的热情好客和各种场所,尤其是教区教堂,都是诱人和愉快的消遣。
