点评:We were gifted tickets to see Stewart Lee’s show here (which was excellent) but being seated in the Grand Circle was agony. I’m 6 ft but my wife is slightly taller and it was impossible for us to sit without being in pain! Talking to others around use the interval demonstrated this was a commonplace complaint - everybody was suffering to varying degrees. We only improved matters in the second half by finding sone empty pairs of seats and sitting sideways - still uncomfortable but at least not painful.
I’ve looked at other reviews for this venue and the complaints are often the same, but so are the venue’s response!
‘It’s 130 years old’ they’ll say. It is, but they’re charging 2025 prices! If you want to keep everything the same, become a National Trust property. Also from 1850-1880 the average height of a man in the UK was from 5 ft. 7in. to 5 ft. 8 in, so it’s hardly surprising that we don’t fit anymore.
Also their suggestions we should call the box office ahead of time to check that we might actually be able to buy a ticket for a public venue that will have the physical space to accommodate us is frankly arrogant nonsense.
