点评:Considered as one of the most sacred temple in this part of Uttarakhand, the temple of Goddess Naina Devi or Shakti Peeth is situated at the northern edge of the Naini lake. It is believed that angered by the death of his wife Lord Mahadev took her body and started dancing vigorously (Tandav Dance) which created havoc around the whole world and then Lord Vishnu cut the body into various pieces and one of these pieces out of the 51 pieces fell at this sacred place. There are about 51 such places where the temples have been built and these are known as Shakti Peeths. It is just Half a km away from the Mall. Nainital also derived its name from the temple aand so is the case with the name of lake. The passage to the temple is very crowded because hundreds of hawkers have put up their shops selling a variety of fancy items. Besides many eatery shops also flourish here and presence of the temple attracts the tourists. Another plus point of temple is that it offers fantastic view of the Lake. The temple is maintained well and many other temples of Hindu gods are also situated here.
