We absolutely loved the whole experience once we were on board. Abbie and the team were amazing. The views from the train are absolutely stunning and the train itself has lovely huge windows which let in lots of light.
However, we found the booking experience stressful. We were told scenic carriage was sold out after we’d booked the train, and then booked our flights and accommodation around this. We were told we needed to upgrade, or be refunded. We’d booked our trip around it so we upgraded. When I rang to book the vegan meal, we rang a few days late, as we got the wrong end of the stick, we thought we had to ring between 2-7 days before, and so we missed ringing exactly 7 days before, instead we rang 4 days before. Worth noting, we had already emailed about being vegan at the time of booking but we were told this didn’t count. The lady answering the phone was rude, told me I probably couldn’t have a vegan meal and if I could, ‘I guess you’ll find out on the day’. When I asked if there was any way to find out before the day, I was advised no, she is too busy to be ringing around anyone.
This did unfortunately remove any and all excitement about the trip for both myself and my husband in the few days run up.
Thankfully, Abbie and the team actually on board, made up for this by being kind, caring, fun, fantastic people and looked after us so well. And a vegan meal was provided, which was actually lovely and a close replacement of each course, instead of being something completely different to what others were eating, which I loved. I do understand I missed the deadline, however I do feel the customer service and attitude was awful and it would make me hesitate to book with this company again especially given the cost of each scenic plus ticket.
