Beautiful venue with amazing history
Maison Dieu, Dover Town Hall的点评
点评：We visited Dover today to see the work undertaken by English Heritage on Maison Dieu after seeing it on the local news. It’s well worth a visit. Incredible local history dating back to 1200. This is several civic buildings including a courthouse, council chambers and town hall.
We were lucky to be shown around by Denise, who really makes the history come alive and was able to tell us so much about the buildings’ usage over many centuries, as well as how this tied into the history of Dover port and Kent.
The crowning glory is the restored town hall, which is still used today. There are some lovely photos of when it was used as a dance hall during WW2, and the pine sprung floor was a gift from the Canadians who had lots of soldiers based nearby.
Would definitely recommend. The staff and guides were brilliant and very welcoming.
