Picture Perfect Sight for Strasbourg "MUST SEE"

点评：Strasbourg is one of the most picturesque cities in Europe and many of those pictures come from or of the Ponts Couverts. The good thing is you can see and experience them for free, so simply make plans to visit.
The Ponts Couverts were 3 bridges and 4 towers built in 1250 by the German Strasbourg to defend the western end of the island city. Pons Couverts is French for covered bridges; however, it was the French who removed the covers on the bridges in 1784. Still the name has stuck. Perhaps the French removed them after they constructed their own western defense at the Barrage Vauban across the river Ill from the Ponts Couverts; thus, making the protective covers obsolete. Of note, the best pictures of the Ponts Couverts come from on top of the Barrage Vauban. What was once a place of war is now at place of beauty.
It is great to walk across the Ponts Couverts from the Petite France side to the other so you can go to the Barrage Vauban. While you can take great pictures on the bridges, the best pictures of the Ponts Couverts will come from the Barrage Vauban. For the best sun angle, I suggest any time after 1:00. The bridges are a popular place for tourist so there will be crowds; however, as you can see from my pictures, there are still opportunities in pictures to be the only one there. In 10 minutes, you have seen the entire area, crossed the Ponts Couvert, and gotten pictures of it from the Barrage Vauban.
