Warm welcome, fantastic historic site.
Croydon Airport Visitor Centre的点评
点评:This was a welcome glimpse into a stylish and graceful age of travel in an unlikely setting - just opposite Croydon Colonnades. We had to book in advance to tour at a set time and arriving 30 minutes early was no problem - there is a very nice café and there were plenty of photographs and other exhibits to keep us busy before the tour. We were welcomed very warmly. The guides are extremely knowledgeable and speak with an authority that can only come from a genuine love of their subject - the only other time I've felt this was on a National Trust tour of Lennon and McCartney's childhood homes in Liverpool.
The building is magnificent and the small museum inside is packed with artefacts that show exactly how important the airport was - really the first aerodrome to be worthy of the term 'airport' perhaps. It had a relatively short life, which makes its great significance seem even more remarkable.
Plenty of history for lovers of transport and art deco, or those like me who are interested in early 20th Century history, particularly that of London. The tour size was very manageable and there were many photo opportunities. This was absolutely worth the effort and we paid the suggested voluntary donation very happily. I also bought a couple of booklets from a well-stocked book stall - facsimiles of the brochures for the airport itself and the nearby aerodrome hotel.
