点评：At above 11000 feet, this is easily the highest point in Narkanda.
Much has been written on various forums about how risky & hair-raising the uphill drive is but, frankly, I did not find it risky at all! Of course, we had an experienced driver and the car is in top condition so pay no heed to the warnings that you need to hire a local car from the market to make the climb. BTW, if you still want to hire a local cabbie, you can hire one from where the climb starts and not necessarily from the market which will obviously cost more!
Enjoy the steep curves and the narrow roads - relax, it is safe as long as you have an experienced driver and a suitable vehicle - sedans would be optimal.
View from the top is excellent but first, about the Hatu Mata temple. When we went, renovation work was in full swing which made moving around a little inconvenient. You need to remove your shoes - there doesn't seem to be a dedicated spot for keeping them but I guess anywhere would be safe.
Walk up the concrete steps to reach the glass-walled temple for darshan. There would be a priest who accepts donations in a box and gives prasad & applies tilak on your forehead. You will get a clear view of the deity located in the innermost sanctum of the temple.
All around Mata are wood carvings of various deities & figures - Kalimata, Krishna-Radha, Hanumanji..... Unfortunately, photography inside the temple is prohibited but you can photograph from outside, through the glass walls.
The surroundings are serene and majestic, especially when the mountain range is visible. We were not so lucky thanks to a cloud cover but were told that Kinnaur Kailash is clearly visible from there and that the view of the sunset is to die for!
According to myth, this is where Draupadi fell on the Pandavas swargarohan journey.
A potpourri of history, religion, nature - this is not something you would want to miss!
