Expected a little more for the price
Kirkcudbright Golf Club的点评
点评：Me and my wife were staying in Kirkcudbright for the week so thought we’d play Kirkcudbright Golf Club whilst we were away. I play a lot of golf and my wife is a relative beginner.
My biggest gripe from this experience was the pricing for visitors. No discounted green fees dependant on day or timings. No twilight green fee, no early riser green fee etc. Just one flat rate of £35 for 18 holes. For a £35 green fee I would expect a certain level of course and facilities.
The club facilities themselves are very basic. Locker rooms/toilets for gents and ladies. A small office with no pro shop. The clubhouse does offer food but it is an external Thai restaurant by the looks of things. Outside seating if you wanted a drink wasn’t the best, just basic plastic garden furniture.
The best points of the day was the chap working in the office and the course conditions. The club secretary was very helpful. Checked us in. Showed us to the first tee and gave us helpful directions for navigating the course. Tee beds were ok, a little rough. The course generally was decent and greens were good to putt on.
The course was far too difficult for my wife. If you’re at more of the learner stage of golf I’d possibly avoid this course. I play off 5 and found it a good challenge personally and enjoyed the round. The views on top of the course are indeed stunning, especially if playing on a glorious sunny day like we did.
Last gripe was when we got round to the 18th tee. After finishing the 17th hole we could hear music and randomly there was a group of teens sunbathing and casually having a meet on the 18th tee. We opted to let a couple behind play through at this point on a buggy who were much quicker who said apparently that’s quite common. Neither of us felt comfortable going back to the 18th tee to even play a tee shot off there and just opted to play from the 18th fairway further down. Personally if you’re a golf course, you’re a golf course. Somebody at the office or clubhouse should be monitoring this on a regular basis to make sure members of the public aren’t congregating on the course preventing play.
Given the facilities on offer and the quality of the course I’d have been much more comfortable with a £20-£25 green fee but £35 was too steep for me.
