A fascinating tour with a guide whose knowledge was beyond encyclopedic!

点评：We took a private tour of the British Sector ("Neptune B") on April 19, 2025 with Florin Petre. He picked us up at our hotel in Bayeux at 08:30, and did not drop us off until shortly after 18:30. A long day, sure, but it was beyond great. Indeed, to indicate just how good this tour was, we discussed getting lunch at one stage and never did: everything was so interesting that we just carried on (admittedly we had a big dinner that night!). We started off at Pegasus Bridge, where it rapidly became clear that Florin was a human encyclopedia. We had requested an addition to his usual tour of the Merville Battery so that was next. Our tour continued with a visit to a British Cemetery, Sword, Juno and Gold Beaches, stories of Lord Lovat and Piper Millin, Colleville Sur Mer, the story of Stan Hollis who won the only Victoria Cross on D-Day, a tour of hill "Hillman", the recent British Memorial, Arromanches and the remaining Mulberries, and the battery at Longues-Sur-Mer. At each stop, Florin could provide detailed commentary together with numerous relevant photographs to explain what had happened (together with some interesting commentary as we drove back to Bayeux regarding William the Conqueror). While a private tour of this nature is not cheap, we both felt that it was very worthwhile and cannot praise Florin enough.
