点评:The moonlight nature tour by kayak sounded like a lot of fun. We met the pleasant, seemingly capable guides who would chaperone our group of 13. We happily kayaked across the Potomac on the well made, well maintained park kayaks.
After kayaking upriver for a few minutes, we encountered a rocky area. One kayaker got stuck on the rocks and elected to turn back, accompanied by the capable man/park worker in the rear. The rocks became more numerous and the river flow was stronger, pushing our kayaks sideways and backwards. We struggled to make forward progress. 4 people in our group managed to get through the strong current and head toward the group leader. The other 8 people could not make it through the current. It was now dark, and no park staff were nearby. I decided to turn around, as did 7 others. We were concerned that if our kayaks overturned, we would be unable to reach shore. We were also worried about whether we could find the park in the dark. We did make it across and down the river and did find the park in the dark.
This tour was not well planned. There were other routes to go upriver that did not involve the swift river flow and rocks. Only 4 people out of the 13 participants were able to find and follow the guide. The rest of us were on our own in the dark and in an area of rocks and rapidly river flow. The woman who was guiding the tour should have figured out that her group was not with her.
