点评：Ilaveezhapoonchira, which literally translates to “the valley where leaves do not fall”, is a pristine destination surrounded by three enchanting hills – Mankunnu, Kodayathoormala, and Thonippara.
My recent visit to this breathtaking hill station on 05 July 2025 left me spellbound, not just by its natural beauty but also by the rich cultural and mythological significance woven into its landscape. According to legend, this was one of the places where the Pandavas stayed during their exile.
The hilltops offer a panoramic 360-degree view of the surrounding districts, and on a clear day, one can even catch a glimpse of far-off places like Alappuzha, Ernakulam, and Thrissur. The serene environment, coupled with cool winds and lush greenery, makes Ilaveezhapoonchira a perfect retreat for nature lovers, trekkers, and photographers alike.
One of the most striking features at Ilaveezhapoonchira is the Kerala Police Wireless Station, perched atop one of the highest points in the area. The Malayalam movie “Ilaveezhapoonchira” (2001), directed by K.K. Haridas and starring Suraj Venjaramoodu and other notable actors, was shot extensively in this location. Standing at the viewpoint, with clouds drifting past and the valley stretching endlessly below, one feels the essence of Ilaveezhapoonchira
