点评：This is a review of the Lindisfarne Heritage Centre, which is what this site is for, not a general comment area about the whole of Lindisfarne
We tried to visit here on Sunday 8th June, twice, just after lunch and about 4pm. On both occasions the place was closed, with no signs of life.
The story put about is that because staff or volunteers don't all live on the island, they sometimes cannot make it because of the tide times and as a result the centre cannot open.
This is really a rather weak and lame excuse. Both English Heritage and the National Trust, as well as several commercial outlets on the island will have the same issue, but it doesn't lead to them closing their sites. I suspect that the trust that operates this facility doesn't exercise much supervision about how the centre is run and as a result the staff or volunteers can run it as they please. This is not acceptable. More staff/volunteers need to be recruited (so you are not dependant on one person) and some more hands-on management applied over how this place is run.
I am sure the centre is good and well laid out. We were so looking forward to having a look at the Lindisfarne Gospels on screen - yes we know that you can do this on the British Library website, but we were on the island. There were plenty of visitors to the island that day, and if nothing else, you will be missing out on their custom.
