点评:The Bookshop in Wigtown is by far the largest in Wigtown, Scotland’s Book Town, located in Dumfries and Galloway. It is the best in town for Military, Railway, Natural History and Scottish Subjects. Owned and operated by a quirky fellow in rumpled clothing and bare feet, who quietly contemplates his customers from behind an old wooden arch over a counter at the front of the shop.
At one time a huge, black, dog menacing cat named Captain, patrolled the shop floors and the surrounding environment but he has since passed on to new pastures and the shop is now ‘safe’ for your canine friend.
If you’re lucky on a cold day, the wood stove in a central room is glowing with warmth and a leather chair is free to sit and browse the books collected from the various rooms. The prices are comparable or cheaper than the other bookshops in town. The largest drawback is the impossibility of covering everything in a day. Not only are the rooms lined floor to ceiling with full shelves, but there are also stacks of books in every room looking for shelf space.
A destination in itself, The Bookshop is a rare find.
