Uneven but Fun Rodeo

点评：The Round-Up is one of the most notable rodeos around, but it's not without its flaws. I've rarely seen a rodeo with as much production value and hype as this one. You can sense it is a big event when you are attending. I had tickets in the uncovered Let Er Buck Zone. If it is hot however, this is basically a heat stroke zone. Luckily there was covered seating available and we were able to scoot over there. The venue is setup as a racetrack with dirt oval and grass interior. This makes for an unconventional setup for a rodeo. Depending on where you sit and what event is going on, you may be quite a distance from the action. Some of the events drag a little long. The show is about 4 hours and some events need to move along a little quicker. There are some unique events like a Native American relay race and wild cow milking, which adds to the novelty of the event. The show sequencing was a bit odd as well. The bull riding had 4 events after it, which made for a somewhat anticlimactic timeline. A lot of folks left after the bull riding, which seemed to minimize events like the barrel racing. After the show, there are an abundance of high energy parties in town, but that's not my scene. You can check out the Happy Valley show instead, which shows its age, but is hokey fun. Overall, this is a unique experience, but I do rank other northwest rodeos as a better experience such as the Ellensburg Rodeo.
