点评:A delightful heritage railway in the East Sussex countryside operating both steam and diesel passenger services. Entirely run by friendly and passionate volunteers. Isfield Station is free to explore. They have a lovely tea room offering light lunches, snacks, cake, hot and cold drinks. There is a grade II listed signal box which is open to have a look in to see the signal levers and old instrumentation. Visit the gift shop on platform 2 which also sells ice cream. There’s lots of interesting signage from days long gone including the cattle pens, yard crane, and the old Lavenders coal merchants shed which still survives in the yard. There’s plenty of picnic tables if you choose to take lunch with you. The highlight for us was Riley’s Miniature Railway on platform 2 which is a 5 inch gauge ride on railway which carries both children and adults for just £1 per person per ride. Again operated by volunteers, you get a lovely dated souvenir ticket and best of all the fares and donations collected are sent to the Evelina Children’s Hospital in London, part of Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. Overall a great day out for any explorer and well recommended!
