Stunning Cave drew us in, and we emerged with wine in hand

点评：Our tour of the main wine-producing areas of the Loire Valley continued with Stage 5: Amboise to Chinon (Day 6 in France). We were now based in Chinon.
A walk along the northern bank of the river Vienne (a tributary to the river Loire), led us to discover this Cave. Most importantly it was open and we ventured in, discovering a very helpful lady who sold us some wine. The still wine we tasted and bought was “Les Devants de la Bonnelière Sauvignon” a 2022 vintage. It was a bright with a pale yellow colour, citrus fruit on the nose, fresh lemon on the palate, and a gorgeous long mineral finish.
We just had to have some, and luckily we were able to buy 3 bottles: we really would have like to buy much more. The problem was that we had already bought a mixed case at Pouilly-sur-Loire/Sancerre, a half case in Amboise and a case at Angé. With this half case we now had committed 3 cases our of our 8 case (48 bottle) post Brexit personal wine allowance. Our ongoing plan was to buy more still wine in Saumur (2 cases) and Clisson (3 cases).
Even if the wine had not suited us, or it was beyond our means, this Cave had a spectacular setting. We were not the only ones to recognise this because when we left a British couple cycled up the to Cave and asked if it was open. We recommended that they go in and told them about the wine we had purchased. We took a picture on their phone of them standing in front of the stunning entrance.
This is a Cave that we will look to revisit, or maybe we will visit the Domaine, which I understand has an interesting recent history.
