A Very Atmospheric Experience
Clouds Hill的点评
点评：Not the easiest place to get to ( thank God for sat nav! ) Easy to drive past - look for the little car park on the left between the trees etc. Positioned in lovely heathland at the top of the road , before you get to the carparks for the tank watching / barracks at Bovington. You gone too far if you reach these!
The guides are excellent. There's a little hut that sells books etc. The cottage and a small garage where the guide does his / her thing from.
The cottage is very well maintained, quirky and small ( 2 up / 2 down) with very low ceilings but is very atmospheric. Just down the road is the accident site , in fact, there are two them - from the first in the corner of the car park, take the little track that runs back towards the cottage through the woods. and you'll find a more accurate one below the road. He was killed literally a minute from home!
You can then go to his grave at Moreton village - take 3 lefts from Cloud Hill. It's in a 'additional' cemetery ( not at the church) , a minute's walk from the church. There's a cafe next door. His grave is at he back.
So worth a visit.
This part of Dorset is just amazing. Both of Thomas Hardy's properties , Lawrence's history and 'Sculptures by the Lake' are all within 10 minutes of each other!
