Brown's Mart Theatre的点评
点评：Built to harmonise with the Town Hall, this building came to life in 1885. It was built for the city of Palmerston's leading businessman, Vaiben Solomon and served as a warehouse for his business- V.L.Solomon and Company- auctioneers, shipping agents, land and real estate agents, importers, stock and station agents, agents for Lloyds of London and Custom House agents. The building survived the bombings of Darwin in 1942 at which point the Navy occupied them and they became part of their headquarters, HMAS Melville. ( Also the Old Town Hall was occupied from the Navy as it was directly across from this building).
John George Knight designed the building. By 1887 local businessmen Victor Brown and Herbert Adcock were trading here as Port Darwin Mercantile and Agency Company. The company went into liquidation in 1895 but Brown emerged to resume trading a year later.
It was damaged by Cyclone Tracy but restored and repurposed by the Darwin Theatre Company. Still in use ... it is a beautiful building and worth stopping to read about... there is an information board at the front of it.
