Newburgh Priory的点评
点评：What a gem this is. The driveway entrance into the car park, leads to where the very amiable Owner greets you informally, and takes payment for either gardens or gardens and house. Extensive lawns take you down to the lake, over to the lovely water garden walk or into a walled garden complete with a lily pond. The surrounding views are magnificent. Do take the opportunity to go on the House Tour. We were shown around by Lady Wombwell herself, who provided an informative and very interesting narrative of all that lay before us inside. With a wonderful history of the family and the house, we were in awe of the commitment of the family to the repair and restoration involved in maintaining such a wonderful place. Even Queen Mary has stayed here. There is a well presented booklet providing a wealth of information about the house and the family and is well worth £1.50 before you leave to go home. We just had to indulge in the beautiful cake selection, baked by the family, in the Tearoom. This too was manned by a family member. Nothing was too much trouble as we were warmly greeted and served at the counter. Good value too. The open season is short due to the numerous weddings etc which are catered for within the grounds and House though private group viewings are also accommodated. We were so pleased we chose to visit this enchanting place. A priory of the Augustinian Order through to becoming a private residence. It is a must do. Children will love the free reign of the manicured lawns.
