Two Excellent Days in Sligo with Sligo Tours

点评：We decided on this trip to Ireland we would explore more of the northern half of Ireland, including Sligo County. I am so glad we found Eugene (who owns Sligo Tours) online. He was available to drive/guide us on the Yeats Benbulben tour on our first day and arranged a colleague (Pat) to guide us on the second day; a hybrid of parts from the Lough Gill and Knocknarea tours. The weather gods shone on us as both days were glorious, making the already incredible scenery even more spectacular. The first day included stops at Rosses Point, Yeats' tomb at Drumcliffe, the neolithic site of Creevykeel Tombs, Horseshoe Valley, Glencar Lake and Waterfalls (mentioned in Yeats' the Stolen Child) and the Holy Well at Tobernault. Eugene shared his knowledge at each of the sites and the trip was very relaxed, like traveling with a friend. I mentioned that as we traveled from Donegal Town by bus, we passed thru Ballyshannon, where I saw a large mural and a statue of guitar legend Rory Gallagher, but I was not fast enough with my phone to get photos. As we were running a little ahead, Eugene suggested taking a run up there (about 20 mins each way) to get them. Thanks Eugene! Great lunch (soup and sandwich) at the Glencar Falls cafe. Our second day was with Pat; with the highlights being a walk in the Hazelwood Forest (mentioned in Yeats' the Song of Wandering Aengus), a very peaceful place, Parkes Castle (we were the only people there), the Dromahair Abbey ruins (again only people there!), viewing the Lake Isle of Innisfree (more Yeats) and visits to Aughris Head (incredible pub lunch, overlooking the beach with crashing waves - have the Irish Lamb stew!), tower ruins in Easkey and a view out to the Atlantic from the beach at Inishcrone. Two fabulous days exploring Sligo county, a hidden gem of Ireland, that needs to be discovered!
