Very good local history museum
Richmondshire Museum的点评
点评：The Richmond town centre is quite compact and the circle of commercial premises that surround the market square represent a high proportion of those commercial premises available within the town boundaries. It was Market Day so there was added interest. There are also a couple of quaint narrow and pleasant pedestrianised roads leading off the centre which we strolled along and really enjoyed. We chose a café for a quick coffee, and returned there for a sandwich later on.
We then had a couple of hours before we took lunch and we decided to check-out the restaurant that we had booked for dinner that evening and in doing-so we spotted the signs for this attraction. We decided to find out more and we were sufficiently impressed by what we were told by the staff to pay the £6 concessionary entrance fee (each) to have a good look around.
The museum was far more extensive than we expected, spread over several floors including a basement and an attic. There were all manner of exhibits, but the ones that stood-out the most were, at least two (possibly more) original BBC TV stage-sets. These were for the original 1978 Christopher Timothy and Robert Hardy ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ TV series. Very nostalgic memories for me; as I had enjoyed watching these as a younger person.
There were other exhibits mostly showing the history of how people lived (mostly just survived it would seem) in Yorkshire over the last 200 to 300-odd years. This was a very interesting visit and we spent well-over an hour looking around the exhibits which were very varied. The staff were excellent and knowledgeable, and we thank them for their contributions and their kindness.
