点评:Wheatley Park was highly recommended to me by two different acquaintances (who don't know each other), so I made my reservations with a best friend, both with high expectations for our yearly camping trip. We love to fall asleep and wake to the sounds of nature... Sadly no such luck this time: we had NO sleep.
The park itself is indeed beautiful, with the campsites in the middle of the forest, but our experience was greatly spoiled by noisy campers in neighboring sites with bright lights, loudly chatting and laughting well into the night/early morning. We were in Boosey Creek, the generator fee / radio free zone, not the group camping site. They obviously didn't read or didn't care about the park rules. The park warden is not accessible "after hours" to enforce the park rules ("quiet hours" are supposedly between 10pm and 8am). When calling the park number after hours we are asked to call the police (OPP), but a noise complain is probably very low in their list of priorities... Something should be done to enforce camp rules, especially at night., since sleep is essential for most humans (no?).
Also, the distance to toilets, showers or the beach is so far that most campers take the car to go anywhere in the camp which creates unessessary localized car traffic. Some long-term campers bring their own bikes (which is great) but this could be even greater (and bring additional revenue to the park) by offering bike rentals and canoe rentals to weekenders or one-night campers!
The day-use area (where the beaches are) is wild and pretty, but parking is very limited (a few spots along the road) and real toilets are in the campgrounds area only (10-15 minutes walk) (I've seen ONE porta potty).
