点评:I returned as a veteran squash player following a year of not playing at this venue. We had big difficulties and poorly thought out responses and processes back then with the court lighting; the court condition itself is pretty beaten up and obviously not cared for regularly; and the heating was not in operation.
We returned in late January 2023 to find a new heater in the booked court but 'this can't be operated as the manager doesn't have the app to turn it on'....smart heater eh? This centre apparently doesn't put heaters on as a matter of course - we played in a court not heated whilst external temperatures were just above zero. Squash booking players must request it at the start of the booking. I was advised to book Court 1 if I wanted a functional heater. One new heater has been installed in each of two courts.....2 months after installation the manager 'doesn't have the ability to turn the one in Court 2 on! 1 ancient and dysfunctional heater remains in each court for some reason.
When asked if the court is ever swept...the response was 'it should be swept daily'...clearly it was not as we found a lot of 'gunk and dust' in the wall/floor joints....'I'll get that done for you now sir'...we raised this issue at the end of our session at 8pm.
When asked if there were any developments expected in the coming months specifically to upgrade the squash courts we were assured 'no'....so with neighbouring towns closing squash facilities and the cost of these ones cold /dilapidated / mucky / run down and poorly managed courts' costs rising to £12 for a 45 minute session it seems it will not be long before Fusion will need to consider how it will attract members of any sporting community to any activities at this centre. A perfectly fine squash section in a school based centre in Shepton Mallet is under threat; how are the courts in Trowbridge or Warminster? Lets go an see peeps.
