点评:This was my second visit to HMS Victory at the Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyards - both times I have visited whilst the ship has been undergoing restoration – first in the 1980s and now a ten-year (£40M+) restoration lasting until 2032 in happening. However, I was able to see more the inside of the ship this time, whilst currently most of the outside is under protective coverings.
Whilst the history of this ship was interesting, especially how the ship gets transformed into battle readiness, I felt slightly disappointed by the visit. It is hard to image 850 men working and living on this relatively small ship.
However, it was interesting to see how the restoration work is going and seeing how the repairs are being done using old techniques – the people doing the work were quite happy to explain what they were doing.
I am really looking forward to 2032 and seeing the ship back to its full glory, but for now you need to use some imagination.
