Disappointing photo opportunities at Goat Island dive

点评：I participated in a guided scuba dive at Goat Island in a group of six diver, including the dive master. The rented full equipment, excluding mask, fins and computer, was of very good quality. The pre-dive prep. was thorough and van transportation to dive site was offered. The shore entry was done on a public beach and surface swimming of approx. 100m was required.
The dive around the small island was shallow (max. 9m) and visibility was approx. 5-6m. Kelp covered rocks and small patches of course sand bottom dominated the entire area, offering ample hiding for small fish and other fauna. Continuous swell made search for photo objects difficult and our guide/dive master maintained a steady finning pace, further lessening opportunities for photography. Other than a few curious snappers, I saw no pelagic fish, mollusks, crustaceans or other wildlife during the dive. Although dive site conditions regularly change everywhere, and can never be guaranteed, the dive was disappointing in light of the advertised panel of resident species at the marine reserve.
My reason for the rating is based on the guide’s failure to recognize clients’ interest in photography, to slow down and look more closely for visual interest.
