点评:We had planned to come and do the Devil’s Kitchen hike which was recommended by another reviewer. Not knowing much about national parks or really parks in general, I didn’t so much research. As it turns out, the central section of road through the park is closed off. This meant that, coming from the north, we could only go as far as the “devastated area” (devastated by a volcanic eruption on 1915). That closure was about 9 miles in from the north west entrance. Had we gone to the southern entrance it would have require two extra hours of driving (each way) to come and go to the devils kitchen. We were also told that there is still a TON of snow there.
So for today, we thoroughly enjoyed the Manzanita Lake hike (2 hours at a very leisurely pace given bird watching and identification). We also drove down to the devastated area and past some features such as Hot Rock and some rubble from an avalanche.
It was a nice day. Despite it being June, we got stuck in a freak hailstorm on our way out.4-6” of accumulation in 25 minutes! It was wild. Then it stopped.
