点评:This is a small, laid-back winery producing fun, casual wines. On a recent visit, the small but interesting lineup of products included a semi-dry Traminette, a sweeter Concord grape wine, a couple of homemade sangrias, and a spiced wine. As befit the unpretentious nature of the winery and the wines, they were served in small plastic sample cups. All were tasty and easy to drink. I especially liked the very aromatic Traminette, and although I've never been much into sangria, the one (can't recall the name) with blackberries and a hint of jalapeno was very nicely done.
The owner was quite friendly and informative, and obviously loves not just running a winery but meeting people. I imagine this is what a lot of Finger Lakes wineries were like back in the late '70s and '80s, and it's a great example of why I much prefer visiting small wineries over big, slick, commercial operations, which might make fantastic wines but tend to provide a more impersonal experience.
If I were rating just the wines, I might give Deep Root a four out of five, because these aren't what you would call world-class, but they're not trying to be either. As I said, they're just easy-to-drink, unpretentious wines. But for the experience of visiting, I'll give it a five.
