Cineworld - Bolton的点评
点评：(Just to clarify, the following line is a self-created hobby, not an actual job)
*Unofficial Film Representative* (Self/Audience/Film)
(I'm the one near the front, some of you might even know me)
Recent Unlimited member (Early Sep), have been going on and off regularly since autumn 2023.
Membership/Groups - Finally said ok I can save some money and pay the 11 per month as it's a group 1 cinema (Small selection of venues but gives the best per month pricing) do NOT upgrade your unlimited (if you have it) to group 2 UNLESS you travel around frequently and have time to get value from film viewings. Group 3 is all minus leicester square and all group 4 does is add leicester square so really not worth upgrading to them.
Card - waited two weeks so far, still no card in the post which is extremely annoying as I have to use my mobile so the entire process on every single visit.
Value - If you did just two films at 5 pounds each (Monthly) your unlimited is paid for so in that regard they actually told you the truth.
Bookings - To fully test them out I booked a bunch of films (still ongoing) for Sep and Oct. There is a limit of 5 bookings but ONLY on newer entries, retro films do NOT count towards the limit cap. (They don't make this clear in the T+C's)
Website - The occasional "rare" database error message on bookings, generally clean, up to date and works when needed.
Venue - Remote, isolated and now lacks all the external amenities that helped draw people in, we have now lost Frankie and Bennys along with Cotton Kier just around the corner and this is post-pandemic. Neither has been replaced with viable options.
Car Park - Generally at least partly full, but remains LACKING cctv so you park at your own risk and no they WON'T take liability even though it's essentially on THEIR property!
Lobby - Screens 12/13/14/15 are currently closed and sealed off, at least for now. I will update this when I find out why. The screen 14/15 doors for example now have a massive Transformers One cardboard promo blocking you from even seeing the door but we all know it's there. The elevator looks like an empty shell without any usage, the opposite corner promotes unlimited but stupidly you can't sign up for it IN the cinema, instead relying on the "website only" excuse!
Staff - Hit and miss, I've seen staff and no people around, plenty of people and zero staff so you get the queues that take ages. One security guy that they don't even need. (clearly a recent summer hire) Very mixed with this.
Side Areas - Baskin Robbins gets some customers (Not a lot, just a few), but the real kick in the teeth here is the cutbacks, if you did not see it before with the removal of the cafe bar/alcohol bar on the middle floor, you will now as the entire arcade corner has been been ripped out and the section repainted green for extra tables/chairs which is plain DUMB as we already have seating in the lobby area which rarely if ever gets packed out.
I have personally been told the site not only broke even for the year but actually turned a profit for the year so they have ZERO excuse to not pay for the electric and maintenance of the arcade zone. It stinks of doing cutbacks with that and the 4 screens mentioned earlier and I will be having words with them about this.
Toilets - Has occasional issues on smells and dampness/upkeep.
Had a rather nasty fall recently from wet floor and I guarantee your shoes WILL NOT grip onto those tiles if they are damp. Better upkeep required.
Concessions - I won't lie, it can be expensive, the only thing you CANNOT bring in is hot food and let's add it here before we forget...alcohol. Anything else is fair game. So if you think hot drinks won't get through, you might want to point them back to their own terms, no way the manager will fuss over a hot drink unless they REALLY want to cause a scene. Red card status gives you the 10% discount, if you pushed through the 12 months to black card status it goes to 25%. Atm my coffee buy is just over 3 pounds per visit as I don't favour popcorn and other snacks.
Note - The Light in town also does membership BUT 1. It's more expensive per month and 2. Your discount after a year only goes from 10% to 15% and not equal to cineworld's 25% so really not worth it as 3. You don't even get premiere film viewings even though your paying more than Unlimited which DOES allow for new film viewings as proven by the Advanced screenings.
Screens - Generally clean, but the cold issue other people brought up is valid. Some of the screens do not have proper AC to keep it heated, maybe all of them. Seats are ok, not seen any ripped seating yet but I have yet to do a sweep post-film to check. No the biggest downside is that they are not very comfy, whereas the light in town has far better seats which are soft and squishy, with those flat drinks holders that they have which I prefer over the "holders" that Cineworld has which make the seat arms rigid, hard and not preferred when your trying to settle in. Note screens 7/8 also have alternate exits though I have not figured out how this is possible yet.
Note - Screens 7/8 have damage on their lower border, clearly visible during a film, requires total repair work or a complete screen replace.
Choice Of Films - Extensive, but not complete, you will see options not quite the same when checking versus The Light and Vue. Has most options at the moment except for Halloween which is Oct 31st, only for the one in town. Whereas Vue has several exceptions that only it is showing such as the LOTR films among others.
Posters - Lobby posters are all the same, no variety.
Outside each screen, the posters DO NOT reflect what your seeing, it's not even a mix of digital wall frames and normal posters. Pure lazyness on their part for not paying attention to details.
Concession free posters - Major films did not get them, other ones did, very picky on their part.
Concession limited items - The Beetlejuice items comes to mind. They underestimated demand and did not order in more. Thus giving the advantage to ebay scalpers, and that causes damage on their reliability/credibility.
Attend Screens - Ever see those small digital monitors on the walls? They are supposed to display all current films, how many booked on site vs how many booked online. Guess what? Most of them are not working. Sorry but I would like to know just how busy my film will be, you know, maybe it gets too noisy, maybe you have a phobia. They have never fixed these useful display boxes and they really should.
Conclusion - Doing cutbacks, the light in town is not.
Rarely does display pieces, the light does it way better.
Dangerous toilets, the light has better upkeeping.
4 less screens, the light closed none.
No arcade, which was it's one advantage, now it looks like a severely empty lobby.
Cold screens, the jury is out on whether the light also has the same issue.
No cafe bar/alcohol bar, a massive mistake that they won't soon forget.
Better seats needed - on this I completely agree, it need soft, fluffy seats just like the light has, including the flat drinks wood sections.
