点评:During our four day-stay in Nainital, we visited two of the most famous lakes. Sattal lake is situated at about 22 km from our hotel in he Mall, where we were staying and it took about one hour to reach there. Approach to the lake area is crowded by many shops selling snacks and eatables and the road near the lake periphery was quite congested with many parked cars, although it was not a weekend. We were told that during weekends, the place and approach is very crowded. So after parking our car and traversing the congested path, infested with hawkers and eateries, we reached the lake entry point to hire a boat. The charges depend on the duration and area of boating. After some bargaining we hired a boat for two of us for covering the whole lake area, that took us about 75 minutes. Our boatman told us many stories about the lake. The name SATTAL i derived from SAT and TAL. Sat in English means seven and tal means lake. While taking us around, he told us about these lakes named as, Purna tal, Ram tal, Sita tal, Lakshman tal, Garuda tal, Nal Damyanti tal and Sukh tal etc. Two of the seven lakes were not accessible, as they were in deep forests and not connected with the present cluster of lakes. There are different stories of the origin of these lakes situated at an altitude of 4000 feet or nearly 1400 meters. The whole area is very green surrounded by hills decorated with pine and deodar trees. No fishing is allowed here to keep these beautiful lakes clean. One can get the facility of toilets or Rest Room near the parking area at nominal charges because the snack bars or eateries do not have such provision. Hotels are also believed to be available here for people interested in staying in this place.
